Introduction
The relevance of the chosen topic of the scientific work is determined by the fact that the role of the mass media is constantly growing. One of the main forms of mass media is the press, which occupies an important place in the life of society. The press performs informational, cultural, and educational functions. It should be said that the press is a structural element of publicistic discourse. The political sphere is the most mobile "conservative" of the state of the language at the moment, so it is English-language journalistic texts that have become a source of material for research. In the texts of the mass media reflects all the latest language changes, and do the media affect language change and development. These factors determine the choice of research topic and material.
Currently, research on linguistic features, considering the characteristics and structure of language units in the language system, is becoming as relevant as possible. It should be noted that the title of an article forms the external semantic appearance of the material provided, as well as forms the image of a newspaper or magazine.
The object of the research is the peculiarities of the language of newspaper headlines in English-language media.
The subject is the analysis of linguistic features of headlines in English-language Newspapers.
The goal of this work is to analyze the linguistic features of newspaper headlines in English-language materials.
To achieve this goal, you must complete a number of tasks:
- to reveal the concept of "journalistic style"
- to consider the element "newspaper" as a component of publicistic discourse;
- consider the linguistic features of English-language Newspapers;
- to analyze structural features of newspaper headlines in English-language Newspapers
- to classify the linguistic features of the headings of articles in the English-language press.
Theoretical basis of the research. Many linguists studied the newspaper style, first of all, these are: Gavrishina N. N., Konurbaev M. E., Tertychny A. A., Malyuga E. N., A. N. Vasilyeva, O. N. Grigorieva, O. K. Denisova, L. p. Poznyak, A. Bell, C. Rich. Stylistic features languages of Newspapers and headlines are presented in the works of E. Y. Bazhenova, T. G. Dobrosklonskaya, I. M. Kobozeva, E. A. Lazareva, G. Ya.Solganik, A. Chernykh, R. Fowler, J. Morley, D. Reach, M. Swan. Syntactic classifications of the header language were studied by scientists T. A. Znamenskaya,A. S. Podchasov, B. Clark, and I. Mardh.
The practical significance of the research lies in the fact that the acquired skills of linguistic analysis of newspaper headlines of information materials will be applied in the development of various scientific manuals, in the practice of translation and interpretation of journalistic texts, as well as in the course of teaching such disciplines as: practical translation course, intercultural communication, stylistics, lexicology, practice of speech communication (in military Universities and political science faculties), in research activities of students, when writing term papers and final qualification papers.
The following sources served as the research material: New York Post, The New York Times, The Moscow Times, The Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Sun, The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Observer, The Irish Times.
Research methods: theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific information, distributive analysis, continuous sampling method, statistical method, descriptive method.
The structure and content of the work are determined by the composition of the problems and tasks to be solved. This research work consists of an introduction, two chapters, a conclusion, a list of references, a list of dictionaries used, and a list of sources of factual material. The introduction justifies the relevance of the chosen topic, defines the goals and objectives of the study.
Chapter 1. Linguistic features of the language of newspaper headlines in the English-language press
1.1. The concept of "journalistic style"
There are a large number of definitions of the concept of "journalistic style".
Journalistic style - (newspaper-journalistic, newspaper, political, newspaper-magazine) - one of the functions. a style that serves a wide range of social relations: political, economic, cultural, sports, etc. PS is used in political literature, it is represented by mass media – mass media) - Newspapers, magazines, radio, television, and documentaries. The names given in the title are used as synonyms for the term PS: the most common newspaper and journalistic characterizes the presence in PS. two subfields – newspaper-informational and journalistic proper; newspaper and newspaper-magazine distinguish the main sphere of application of PS – periodicals in this sphere of communication; political emphasizes the important role of the political aspect in the approach to reality [2, p. 364].
Other definition of journalistic style – «journalistic style is a type of literary language: one of the book-like speech styles used in the sphere of politics, social, economic, and cultural life of society, and in the mass media» [1].
Publicistic style (from Latin publicus – public) is a historically developed functional type of literary language that serves both the sphere of public relations (political, economic, ideological, socio-cultural, moral and ethical, religious, sports, etc.) and journalism as a genre of literature. The journalistic style is widely used in political literature, in the mass media (mass media): in Newspapers, magazines, in journalistic speeches on television and radio, in oratorical speeches of public and political figures at rallies and congresses, in speeches at meetings. The journalistic style is most fully and widely represented in all the variety of genres on newspaper pages. Since the concepts of "newspaper language" and "journalistic style" are often considered identical or close, this style is also called newspaper-journalistic. The journalistic style is implemented both in written and oral form. Within this style, both forms closely interact and converge, and the basis is more often the written form. This circumstance affects the selection of language tools, because the author must take into account the peculiarities of human perception of information related to the way it is transmitted [3].
The word publicistic is derived from the Latin word «publicus», which means "public, state".
The words journalistic (socio-political literature on modern, topical topics) and publicist (author of works on socio-political topics) are related to the word journalistic.
Etymologically, all these words are related to the word public, which has two meanings:
- visitors, viewers, listeners;
- people, people.
The purpose of the journalistic style of speech is to inform, transmit socially significant information with simultaneous impact on the reader, listener, convincing him of something, instilling certain ideas, views, encouraging him to certain actions and actions.
The sphere of use of the journalistic style of speech is socio-economic, political, and cultural relations.
Genres of journalism - an article in a newspaper, magazine, essay, report, interview, feuilleton, oratorical speech, court speech, speech on radio, television, at a meeting, report.
The journalistic style of speech is characterized by:
- logical;
- figurative;
- emotional;
- evaluative;
- invocative;
and corresponding language means [4, p.58].
It is widely used socio-political vocabulary, various types of syntactic constructions.
A journalistic text is often constructed as a scientific argument: an important social problem is put forward, possible solutions are analyzed and evaluated, generalizations and conclusions are made, the material is arranged in a strict logical sequence, and General scientific terminology is used. This brings it closer to the scientific style.
Researcher M. E. Konrbaev believes that a journalist who prepares material for the media is always guided by a set of requirements for the style, form, content and volume of his material that was originally set – sometimes in the form of specific instructions, and sometimes in the form of an unspoken code. Without taking these requirements into account, the material cannot be published or broadcast, because any deviation from a certain set norm (which, by the way, is important because it attracts certain categories of readers) knocks this material out of the thin niche of the genre and inevitably transfers it to another category. In this sense, there is no such thing as genre material [5, p.109].
In its most General form, a genre can be described as a certain combination of conceptual and formal characteristics [5, p.110].
Publicistic statements are distinguished by their reliability, accuracy of facts, concreteness, and strict validity. This also brings it closer to the scientific style of speech.
On the other hand, publicistic speech is characterized by passion and appeal. The most important requirement for journalism is its accessibility: it is intended for a wide audience and should be understandable to everyone.
The journalistic style has a lot in common with the artistic style of speech. To effectively influence the reader or listener, their imagination and feelings, the speaker or writer uses epithets, comparisons, metaphors and other figurative means, resorts to colloquial and even colloquial words and phrases, phraseological expressions that enhance the emotional impact of speech [10, p.56].
